Juranas father had just put in and was now talking to the brown rider. All the hold offspring of eligible age were to be lined p for inspection. Jurana was herded with the others into a line. Boys whispered excitedly and girls giggled nervously. The brown slowly moved down the line searching for the dragonworthy. He stopped in front of Jurana. She was Searched.
The Sands didnt seem quite as hot the third trip. Jurana was use to it. But today there were more candidates. New faces who were new to the heat. They danced from foot to foot and stroked each egg reverently. But it was one boy that drew her attention. His face was scarred with an air of sad hopelessness about him. The boy had been walking when suddenly the Queen was infront of him hissing. The boy had almost run out of the cavern.
"Hi, you look new. When did you arrive?" Jurana asked the scarred one at dinner one evening. The boy blinked at her garish colors and said," Yes I am new. I got here a few days ago." "Oh. I am Jurana.," then seeing his discomfort over her colors, "On a ship if you are swep overboard, you want to be seen. Bright colors help peoplefind you." "That makes sense I suppose." Fadurek replied after taking a large sip/bite of the stew. "Have you met that Kathaa? She got here today. If she Impresses, which I doubt, she will Impress the dumbest green of the clutch!" Jurana declared, stirring her soup around. "Really?" Fadurek asked, "How did someone so stupid get Searched?" "I dont know. Maybe they just brought her to work in the kitchens. We will see won't we?" Jurana said taking a large spoonful. "What do you want to Impress?" She continued. "Well, I dont really care, I just want to Impress. But if I had the choice, brown." Fadurek replied. "Not bronze?" asked Jurana. "I wouldnt dare think that. No, brown is just fine for me." "I want brown too." Jurana said. "I also wanted to captin a ship but a wing is fine for me. But I might not have a good enough personality to get a brown." "Your not........." Fadurek asked, dropping his eyes and blushing. "No! Through it might seem like that to my mother. A bronze would never except a female rider and blues never command wings." Jurana said without blushing. She liked this boy, she didnt know why. It almost made her want to don a dress.
The conversation lulled for awhile. Both turned back to their meals in silence. Both pondered the others wanted color. "You would have trouble when the brown wanted to chase." Commented Fadurek as he took a second helping. "Yes, but what is rising but a small part of the dragons life. Besides, there are cross gender flights. Though....." Jurana paused and blushed red. "Though what?" Asked Fadurek, he stopped eating. "Until now, I have never thought about getting a husband except when my mother was yelling at me. I never wore a dress unless she hid all my other clothing." "What does that have to do with your dragon?" Fadurek asked, catching her eye. The answer reflected there. "Oh." Was all he said. The atmosphere began a little tense. "I really dont want a relationship until my Candidatcy is decided." "Thats a good idea," She replied, Fadurek could hear she meant it. Now the strain would become worse as she waited. Some how a green was starting to seem really appealing.
